Soma mainstay Hope Grant aka Envoy returns to the label seventeen years after his first. Reworking Detroit ideals as in many classic Soma tracks, 'Seawall' sticks to this in smooth, icey desolation grounded by a nimble bassline, the 10-minute Villalobos remix extracts and estranges in wonderful ways.

Another excellent entry in our favourite Soma compilation series, 'Soma Coma 6' brings together exquisite techno and electro dubs, tranquil ambient and spacious drones. Highlight contributions come from Joe Stawarz, Onmutu Mechanicks, The Black Dog, Rod Modell, and Alex Under. All exclusive and essential.

Rod Modell follows up his recent second DeepChord album for Soma with two long and intricately layered dub-techno jams. 'Spiral 1' gradually evolves dreamy arpeggios to great effect, whereas 'Spiral 2' exudes a slightly more gloomy mood with dense, echoed chords. Check.

With releases on Minus, Electric Deluxe, Saved and Drumcode, Glaswegian Gary Beck graces Soma for its 100th album. Stretching beyond techno purism, Beck paces himself with detailed production wafting tastes of acid, house, even an ambient interlude under our noses amidst finely carved resilient techno.

Rod Modell's second album for Soma after last year's 'Hash-Bar Loops' re-ups our supply of deep and smokey, effect-heavy techno cuts, the intricate production detail and hypnotic intensity of which more than make up for the album's slight lack of surprises. Essential release for dub tech fans.

Having long reached legendary status, the inimitable trio unleashes an album on Glasgow's Soma. Their past few releases decisively drone and ambient, they get down to some heads-down, raw, sharp-shooting techno. Splintered noise, beastly beats, visceral flexes of high-grade hypnotic TBD quality. Excellent.

It's been seven years since Alex Under's debut album of bouncing minimal techno appeared, this second album via Glasgow's Soma proves itself an altogether more experimental affair. Apart from dropping a few bpm, hazy crackly textures and pensive electronics masterfully roam ambient and avant dub-techno territories.
