Skam Records is an independent Electronic and IDM record label based in Manchester, England, founded by Andy Maddocks around 1990. Skam also runs a smaller sub-label called 33. Skam's first 12-inch single is rumored to have never been officially released, only distributed as a promo. This self-titled debut from Lego Feet (Sean Booth and Rob Brown, now commonly known to be the pioneering duo Autechre); approximately 100-150 copies are believed to exist. The label followed with two 12" records from a project known as Gescom, whose members vary between each release. It is widely believed that Booth and Brown of Autechre are staple members, however. Other early Skam releases came from the likes of Freeform, Bola, Jega and Boards of Canada. These first ten label releases are commonly regarded as classic electronic records, during which Skam was at its prime and include Boards of Canada's 'Hi Scores' EP and Gescom's 'Keynell'. Skam entered the full-length market in 1998 with the releases of Soup by Bola and 'Music Has The Right To Children' by Boards of Canada, the latter being jointly released with Warp Records, both of which have praised by the IDM community as classic recordings. A recurring feature on the packaging of Skam releases is the name of the label printed in braille.

Manchester's legendary Skam records sees a new release, the first in five years from mr76ix. As if straight from the thick of a 90s rave, he dishes up only the most skewed breaks, rattling techno thorough-bred with decentralised jungle trajectories and intermittent moments of tranquil ambience.

Essential classic! Manchester's legendary Skam label celebrates its 20th anniversary by reissuing its first ever-release by 'Legofeet', a group better known as Autechre these days. Released in 1991 this sketchbook album oscillates between harsh machine beats and dreamy electro.

Welcome to 2012 and our first update of the year! 'The problem starts with the word electro,' goes a quote by Detroit's DJ Stingray, and indeed the e-word has been applied to pretty much any other genre beside the cold, synthetic funk of Kraftwerk, Model 500 more...

Skam mainstay mr76ix returns with a teaser for his upcoming 'Experiment Four' album: 'Version' is a brutally shredded industrial IDM piece, while '2nd Thought' strikes a more funky note with its electro breaks and pads. Recommended for fans of Autechre, Squarepusher, AFX.

NHK's Kouhei Matsunaga follows up his recent collaboration album with rapper Sensational with another full-length for Skam. Kouhei frequently uses the compressor as an instrument, creating interesting dynamics across 19 tracks influenced by abstract hip hop, electro and even dub techno. Recommended.

Experimental hip-hop maverick Sensational (formerly Torture) collides with Japan's Koyxen (member of NHK) for this burningly dark and fierce album on Skam. Lyrical mastery of Sensational positively swells over the wild electronics of Koyxen. Enigmatic, next level listening.
