Running Back Running Back
Running Back is a deep house label run by Gerd Janson (a.k.a. Kool DJ Pink Alert), operating out of Darmstadt, Germany. Its first eight releases might have appeared over a span of five years, but with artists like Radio Slave, Tensnake and Lil Tony, Running Back has since picked up the pace, and brilliantly combines an interest in old-school house with contemporary sounds.

Ewan Wilmott, with two releases on Dissident to his name, appears on the excellent Running Back living up to his gleeful mechanical name. 'Crepitation' bounces a jaunty bassline, whilst 'Jarza's vocoded-disco origins gets two Theo Parrish journeys - cosmic psychedelic and broody sonic sorcery. Tiptop.

Redshape surfacing on Running Back might come as a surprise to some, yet the masked techno avenger's analogue hypnotism turns out to be a perfect match for Gerd Janson's revivalist imprint. Two percussive synth jams plus a raw and jacking bonus beat.

LA's Suzanne Kraft continues the edit business on Gerd Janson's Running Back imprint with four excellent beat collages that range from the soulful late night disco of 'Morning Come' to the funk-infused electro boogie of 'Femme Cosmic'. A must for fans of Tiger & Woods or Mark E.

Disco Nihilist Mike Taylor surfaces on Running Back with six raw and jacking tracks. Opener 'Greasy Grind' is a particularly mean slice of stomping Chicago acid, and while subsequent tracks like 'Sci-Fi On Tape' deliver slightly deeper moods, this is definitely one for fans of rough and dirty house music. Recommended.

The elusive production outfit Tiger & Woods' big hit 'Gin Nation', an epic eight-minute sliced and diced edit of Imaginations 'Music and Lights' appears on this album sampler ahead of a forthcoming album. Backed up by a blistering new track 'Kissmetellme', disco decimation guaranteed! Killer.

Running Back showcases the housier side of Scandinavian disco hero Todd Terje with 'Ragysh', a long, sun-drenched piece of epic build-ups and progressive grooves. 'Bonysh' shines with more experimental and minimalistic percussions, while two versions of 'Snooze 4 Love' deliver cosmic melodies galore. Sweet.

More Passarani on Running Back with the second volume of 'Colliding Stars'. 'White Dwarf' is a slow-grooving piece of acid house, remade as the percussive 'Black Dwarf'. It's the eponymous 'Colliding Stars Pt. 2' however that pushes our buttons with euphoric Detroit strings and a massive breakdown. Recommended.
