Poker Flat is the minimal tech-house label of the outstanding Berlin artist Steve Bug, who alone is responsible for the A&R section. The imprint was born 1998 as a follow up to Steve Bug's former label Raw Elements and features mainly deep and reduced club sound with percussive elements as well as funky collages of minimal dance. A short abridgement of the artist roster: Trentemøller, Märtini Brös., Martin Landsky, Guido Schneider, John Tejada, Argy ...

We liked TJ Kong & Modular K's recent single 'End-game' a lot, and the duo continues in this vein on their 'Dream Cargoes' full-length released on Poker Flat: Ten tracks blend dubby house vibes with Detroit-style funkiness and the expansive, melodic and cinematic sound-scapes of Eindhoven techno. Recommended.

Poker Flat Recordings drop this sweet new single by TJ Kong & Modular K: 'End-Game' is deep and epic Detroit-style techno, complete with great chords and an unusual 'electro-sax' part. Nice remixes as well from Planet E's Reference and UK house crew Deep Space Orchestra. Recommended.

Leaving Berlin (Track 01 on this Album) was reviewed:
Donnacha Costello's 'Before We Say Goodbye' was one of our favourite techno albums this year, and its first track, 'Leaving Berlin', proved particularly infectious. Perfectly representing Costello's unique sense of melody, emotion, and drama, these piano chords just wouldn't let go of us anymore.

Preceding the upcoming Poker Flat compilation 'Forward to the Past', label head Steve Bug makes it clear what the vibe is about. 'Jack Is Back' peers back old-school way harnessing innate jacking forces, which Martin Landsky continues deeper with 'V2U' and a digital bonus from Clé rounds it off with bounce.

Three cuts of stylish techno house from Germany's Roland Appel. 'Fleurs Du Mal' has a sombre haughtiness, interjected with gripping bells, 'Black Leather' strays a little deeper still maintaining a dark edge and 'Rosario' sees dark chord stabs emerging from a sturdy piano motif. Smooth moves.

Alex Flatner and Lopazz team up for a release on Poker Flat: 'Dinosaurs' is a percussive, shuffling DJ tool with spoken word vocals and a prolonged break-down. Paul Woolford adds his well-known modulated arpeggios in Green Velvet style, while Wareika's remix is a stoic and low-pitched builder.
