Mike 'µ-ziq' Paradinas' Planet Mu label has long become an institution of British electronic music, constantly innovating the field of broken beats since its inception in 1995. Originally a Virgin Records subsidiary, Planet Mu gained independence in 1998 under Paradinas' lead and quickly expanded its roster with artists like Jega, Tusken Raiders, Capitol K, Luke Vibert and Venetian Snares. The musical spectrum of Planet Mu ranges from glitch-hop to breakcore, and signings like Milanese, Starkey, and Boxcutter have made dubstep has another major focus of attention in recent years.

The director's cut of Machinedrum's fantastic debut album from last year not only includes the entire 'Room(s)' album (which you probably already have), but also eight new and awesome tracks, as well as remixes by Lando Kal, Chrissy Murderbot, FaltyDL and Traxman. Killer post-footwork action. Essential!

Not unlike recent full-lengths by Kuedo and Machinedrum, the self-titled debut album by new Planet Mu signing The Host references dubstep and footwork from a unique angle - in this case a cyber-hippiesque fascination with cosmic music and early 90s ambient electronica. Impressive and recommended.

Daniel McCormick (Sex Worker, Mi Ami and of course Ital) lands on Planet Mu with another bag of surprises. 'Doesn't Matter' is a Gaga-Whitney-stuttering cosmic vortex, the rest of the EP roams more obscure Kraut-Kosmische and synth-wave terrains, a pretty fitting depiction of this decade's collective consciousness. Ace.
