Iceland's Sóley Stefánsdóttir, member of Seabear and Sin Fang shows a hugely impressive depth in her solo debut album. Somewhere in between Sigur Rós, Múm and Joanna Newsom, the piano and voice, creaky atmospheres and melancholy melodies, expose a beautiful delicacy in her songwriting.

Icelandic popsters FM Belfast return with a second album after 2008's 'How To Make Friends'. You wouldn't guess the core line-up has members of ambient experimentalists Múm, their bouyant and energetic blend of saccharine electro-pop bouncing with a catchy hyperactivity. Sweet.

German collective Tied & Tickled Trio, with members of The Notwist and Lali Puna, combine forces with legendary jazz drummer Billy Hart (who has played with the likes of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis). 'La Place Demon' is a stunning album of free-flowing jazz with diverse influences.

Valerie Trebeljahr's pioneering indietronica group Lali Puna made a welcome return this year with a lovely comeback album on Morr Music, entitled 'Our Inventions'. The album's endearing single, 'Remember', is a perfect slice of electronic pop, guaranteed to brighten up any grey and cloudy Christmas Day.
