2012 was pretty quiet for the Austrian acoustic techno trio with just one EP so they open 2013 with a pretty intense arrival. 'Cashmere' knocks metallic melodies and a weighty ebbing bassline, whilst 'Crack Fox' strides with a bewildered urgency and a stripped down version of 'Cashmere' plays out.

Stefan Goldmann's latest album explores tangents of tonality, placing the crucial technique of pitch bending in the spotlight. Though the rhythms don't experiment like the melodies, his clever play with tunings seems to evoke ethnic samples, amidst pleasantly quirky poppy electronica.

Austrian veteran Peter Kruder graces Macro Recordings once more since 2009's 'Law of Return', his productions quality as ever. 'Xenomorph' creeps with the Eastern exoticism of a desert-dancefloor mirage, 'Vespertilio' proceeds more mechanically, rolling percussion punctuated with dramatic strings.

On the concert stage Elektro Guzzi take their unique brand of live-played acoustic techno to a whole new level, and 'Live P.A.' does a great job in capturing this experience. A 45 minute live recording is complemented by four new tracks, making for an excellent demonstration of the Viennese trio's proficiency.

Derived from Stefan Goldmann's commissioned ballet 'The Grand Hemiola', the title track sees dramatic orchestral and percussive fragments formed into winding complex rhythms. The remainder are excellent delicate and hypnotic rhythmical compositions, emphasizing the fine acoustic textures. Superb.

Oliver Ho's first album since adopting his Raudive moniker comes forth via Stefan Goldmann's Macro label. Nine masterfully executed tracks of Ho's characteristically reduced and bleepy techno, with occasional turns towards house and ambient. Outstanding album.

Usually known for his subtlety, Macro's Stefan Goldmann drops a techno bomb this time around. Maze's parts 1 and 2 are prime time jackers with distorted drums and equally grungy, free-styling synth lines. Part 3 complements this with some similarly styled, but beatless electro-acoustics.
