Selected as release of the week
A much anticipated debut album from Laurel Halo on Hyperdub, her uncannily dense atmospheres of woozy spiralling synths and stark abandoned vocals, through cosmic leanings of 'Thaw' and 'MK Ultra', gripping formants of 'Wow', lushly trippy 'Carcass', she creates immersive depths you are sorry to leave.

Hyperdub hasn't lost its touch in breaking new artists, introducing 20-year-old Mancunian Walton, whose 'All Night' is a five-minute joyride of r'n'b pizzicati, tumbling arpeggios and heavy bass drops. The Roska-inspired 'Mallet' and crackling downbeat jam 'Kush' serve as ideal companions. Ace.

Hyperdub continue to broaden horizons in style with this release from Philadelphia veteran producer King Britt. Analogue synth beams of 'Chasing Rainbows' prowl like John Carpenter under nimble beats, 'The Chase' spirals out jagged rhythms and 'Lilloo's Seduction' a drifting dystopic outro. Stunning release.
Rinse FM's Leon Smart, better known as Scratcha DVA spins out his debut full-length on Hyperdub. Vocal-heavy (courtesy of Fatima, Cornelia, A.L., Natalie Maddix and more) he works them around his flippant post-funky rhythms and bold synth-lines in his unique way, making it a dazzling, summery listen.
