Freerange Records Freerange Records
Set up over ten years ago by Jamie Odell (Jimpster) and Tom Roberts, Freerange has slowly but surely blossomed into one of the most consistently brilliant record labels around. One of the few labels that manages to resolutely stick to its musical guns whilst always sounding fresh and completely relevant, Freerange injects deep house with an energy and bounce that takes it about as far away from the 'dad house' tag as you could possibly get. Producing subtly anthemic tracks that are mellow enough to be played as a warm-up but hypnotically uplifting enough to finish a night with is some feat - but one that Freerange achieves easily with almost every release. From Brett Johnson's wobbly basslines to Milton Jackson's euphoric melodies, they seem to hit the mark every time. Jimpster's own productions are beautifully composed house masterpieces combining melodic keys and irresistible basslines.

Seven years since 'Amour', Freerange Records founder Jamie Odell releases his sixth album with a deliriously hazy atmosphere. Deep house with jazzy influences, from the sunny funkin' grooves of the title track to emotional vocal-led tracks feat. Jonatan Bäckelle and Jinadu, a personal tale perfect for long journeys.

Manuel Tur, who has long outgrown his reputation as Germany's #1 house music prodigy, delivers an accomplished second album. 'Back To Me' might constitute a slightly shallow opener, but from there on it's all smooth sailing with a flawless blend of sophistication and danceability, both elating and deep. Excellent.

Freerange does an exceptional job in curating a set of remixes to compliment the addictive bounce of Jimpster's 'Alsace & Lorraine'. Featured are Josh Wink's two energetic interpretations as Dairmount & Bernardi go deep with their version with a hint of Jack peppered in. Ripperton throws down his take that cuts even deeper with its warm and inviting bassline.

Manuel Tur's latest single captures the essence of 1990s club music with massive Kevin Saunderson style chords and classic house vocals by singer Holly Backler. A profession of love to the days of Inner City, and perhaps less voluntarily, acts like Robin S., and Snap. Fine release.

Tony Lionni's straight-to-the-floor house and techno productions continue to rank among our favourites, and this one is no exception. Influenced by old-school Strictly Rhythm sounds, 'Precious' is a simple yet effective house hit, that should prove its worth on any dancefloor.

Effective DJ tool house by Lovebirds on Freerange, which stands out with nice slurry chords and a nice and deep breakdown. Also featured is a cool remix by Kink who once again adds his distinct old school flavor to the original.
