Festplatten was established in 1999 by the brothers
Andi und
Hannes Teichmann (
Gebrüder Teichmann) as an outlet for their own techno and house productions. They soon went on to release music from other artists, which they enjoyed, but which might not have seen a release otherwise. Festplatten aims for music that is lively, emotional and soulful, rather than trying the next floor smasher or neo-trance hit. Next to the Teichmanns sonorous names like
Gabriel Ananda (as Punkananda) or
Jake Fairley (a.k.a.
Fairmont) have contributed to the label as well as old heroes like
Benjamin Wild. Kompakt star Markus Güntner's first ever release came out here and other familiar artists like
Markus Müller (
Connaisseur/
Traum) made their first steps on the label before starting their own (
Squonk). Despite its ongoing success, Festplatten remains a small and special house label run by true music lovers.
