Picked!
It's easy to forget it's only been a short while ago that David Kennedy first popped up on our radar, given the generous amount of stunning music he has treated us to so far. From his early outings on 2nd Drop to his productions for Apple Pips, Hemlock, Aus Music, and his own Hessle Audio imprint, every one of his releases has managed to sound fresh and surprising.
Switching between percussive experimentalism and melodic elegance with grace and ease, Kennedy is certainly not an artist content with rehashing a tried and tested formula over and over again.
On the contrary, Kennedy's productions as Ramadanman and, most recently, Pearson Sound never feel short of clever ideas and unsuspected turns, incorporating diverse elements from genres like techno, electro, juke, and jungle.
His highly anticipated FABRICLIVE mix stays true do his inventive and interdisciplinary approach: Deep and spacious dubstep classics by Pinch and Burial alternate with grimy r'n'b by MJ Cole & Wiley, UK funky flavours by Julio Bashmore and Girl Unit, grungy house by Marcello Napoletano and Levon Vincent, and footwerk sounds by Addison Groove.
Throw in a sizeable number of Ramadanman / Pearson Sound exclusives, such as his unreleased remix of Joy Orbison's 'GR Etiquette', and what you get is a mix that is not only a testament to David Kennedy's production brilliance, but an indispensable cross-section of contemporary bass music. Essential.
