It all started way back in the year 2000: After a few years of throwing Eskimo parties in the Ghent underground the Eskimo boys were approached by dance music distributor N.E.W.S. about bringing the Eskimo-atmosphere to the greater public through a compilation CD. With more than 5000 people regularly attending the parties they already had a fan base, and main residents
The Glimmers were wild about the idea, so they went for it. Since then Eskimo Recordings has brought out a compilation on a yearly basis, always surprising, always eclectic.
From the success of those compilations grew the idea to grow Eskimo Recordings into a fully-fledged label - something Eskimo has pulled of to great acclaim in recent years with artists like
Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas,
Low Motion Disco, and
Aeroplane. The Eskimo philosophy has always been one of surprise and variation, what critics would call 'eclectic'. The Eskimo people listen and dance to all kinds of good music, and if they like it they will bring it to the ears of the people, whether the artists are big names or unknown talents waiting to be discovered.
