Eskimo Recordings Eskimo Recordings
It all started way back in the year 2000: After a few years of throwing Eskimo parties in the Ghent underground the Eskimo boys were approached by dance music distributor N.E.W.S. about bringing the Eskimo-atmosphere to the greater public through a compilation CD. With more than 5000 people regularly attending the parties they already had a fan base, and main residents The Glimmers were wild about the idea, so they went for it. Since then Eskimo Recordings has brought out a compilation on a yearly basis, always surprising, always eclectic. From the success of those compilations grew the idea to grow Eskimo Recordings into a fully-fledged label - something Eskimo has pulled of to great acclaim in recent years with artists like Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, Low Motion Disco, and Aeroplane. The Eskimo philosophy has always been one of surprise and variation, what critics would call 'eclectic'. The Eskimo people listen and dance to all kinds of good music, and if they like it they will bring it to the ears of the people, whether the artists are big names or unknown talents waiting to be discovered.

Swiss Detroit disciple Deetron thoroughly overhauls Aeroplane's 'I Don’t Feel' from 2010. His remix leaves little else than the original track's overly dramatic vocals intact - thankfully stripped from the instrumental version, which emerges as a competent techno banger.

Aeroplane issue remixes of their melodramatic, funked-up disco dazzler 'My Enemy' taken from their debut late last year. Rex The Dog interjects his wacky style, breathing in a synthalicious new life Jean Michel Jarre would approve of, while Green Velvet's version reduces it down to a sultry slow-burning groove.

Gran Canaria's Ilya Santana returns to Eskimo with a slamming disco piece: 'Transborder' blends a funky bassline, euphoric synths, and a massive, Liquid Liquid style percussion section. A lovely downbeat remix by Letherette and an oriental flavoured Minilogue techno version complete a great single.

Enticing package from Belgian's Aeroplane with the seductive candy pop of 'Without Lies' featuring Sky Ferreira on vocals. The Black Van duo (Kris Menace & koweSix) leave the vocals behind and soars to blissful disco heights and the funkin' Breakbot mix induces a bouncing pop reverie. Dreamy!

'We Can't Fly' is the single for Aeroplane's first - and possibly last, considering the recent announcement of the group's break-up - album, likewise titled 'We Can't Fly'. A gorgeous slice of reggae and soul-infused disco-pop, this might well become one of our summer favourites in 2010!
