Dumb Unit Dumb Unit
According to label owners Jeremy P Caulfield, it is simply an exercise. There are no absolutes, no results are planned, and as of yet all tests have been inconclusive. Well some might disagree with that? a shade away from their 50th release Dumb Unit have crafted a name for themselves releasing funky minimal techno with a moody twist. Artists such as Butane, Jake Fairly and Falko Brocksieper have been dropping dark and groovy after hours cuts on this Canadian label ensnaring the masses and making people wonder if they will ever go home again.

Two hot young acts, Clockwork with their breakthrough single on Hot Creations and fellow Italian Avatism, collaborate for the first time on Berlin's Dumb Unit imprint. From the stripped-down groove of 'One Trick Pony' to the meandering sultry keys of 'Archetype' and atmospheric house of 'Hall', a surefire summer pleaser.

Picked!

The title (translated 'alchemy') exudes the mystery that Buenos Aires based Seph accomplishes in his debut album. Seph's sonic experiments are not bound by techno but rather enabled by it, creating bewitching rich and expressive textures with revered attention to each sound. Impressive.

Awesome three-tracker by Eric Estornel, who pulls all registers of advanced production techniques for 'So Real'. Nicely processed vocals, drowsy dub-chords, tense rhythms and foreboding soundscapes are the building block of his delicate arrangements. This is what techno 2010 should sound like.

Whoever predicted techno to be a passing fad some 20 years ago couldn't have been much further from the truth. The demand for straight kickdrums and synthetic basslines is as high as ever, and techno music continues to develop in ways no one could have more...
