Downwards Downwards
Downwards Records is the long-standing and somewhat legendary techno label of Karl O'Connor a.k.a. Regis and Peter Sutton a.k.a. Female. The two artists' vision of austere, industrial techno has, alongside the productions of label-mate Surgeon, served as an influential template for related projects such as Sandwell District and the entire style of dark, minimalistic dub techno.

Compiling Regis' earliest recordings '1994 - 1996' starts out with his seminal 'Montreal' EP from 1995 and progresses relentlessly through one pounding, spiraling techno classic after the other, such as 'Surface', 'We Said No' and 'Careless Pedestrian'. Reduce dosage if side effects occur.

The third of three volumes compiling Karl O'Connor's early recordings '1999 - 2001' oscillates between beatless ambient and symphonic compositions on the one hand and Regis' unique brand of stunning percussive techno on the other. Indispensable - as are the series' other two volumes.

Silent Servant side-project Tropic of Cancer combines inspirations from classic new wave albums such as 'Unknown Pleasures', 'Seventeen Seconds' and 'Psychocandy' with a subtle touch of contemporary dub/drone avant-garde. Fine album and not only for die-hard goths.

If it weren't for today's free bonus day we would have had to miss out on a few amazing releases this February: Regis' three-volume 'Complete Works' for instance or Edward's debut album on White Music, which have just barely made the deadline for this month's more...
