Dial Dial
Regarded by some as the most significant dance music labels of recent years, Dial Records focuses on deep and sensual house music that has learned its lessons in dance floor efficiency from minimal techno while staying true to the raw jacking spirit of early Chicago house. The labels increasingly prominent artist roster includes names such as Lawrence a.k.a. Sten, Carsten Jost, Pantha du Prince and Efdemin.

Emphasizing its recent off-dancefloor focus, Dial releases this great experimental rock album by NYC musician Scott Mou (aka Jane). 'End Times' consists largely of Mou's solo guitar playing and oddly pitched singing, drawing comparisons to Grouper, Panda Bear and the golden age of shoegaze. Check!

Thies Mynther and Dirk von Lowtzow follow up 2009's 'Thrown Out Of Drama School' with another undeniably charming album of theatrical chansons. Witty and amusing songs like 'Dr. Schaden Freud' with bouncing classical instrumentation stuff it to the usual Dial sound in an endearing and enjoyable manner.

Two years since his wonderful debut album 'Glass Eights' on Dial, John Roberts returns. A diffuser approach, his deeply luxurious productions lean more towards rich acoustic instrumentation, loose rhythms and grainy samples, with 'Crushing Shells' the nearest to 'Glass Eights' housier offerings. Lush EP.

A new project between Hendrik Weber, aka Pantha Du Prince and Stephan Abry of Workshop explores different facets of the guitar in new ways. Ethereal hints of Krautrock, post-rock, experimental electronics and ambient, with guiding beats and bass of house somehow never completely disappearing. Exquisite.

Once again the star of the show on his own Dial imprint, Lawrence treats us to three excellent cuts in his inimitable style. Title cut 'Etoile Du Midi' is an exercise in dreamy melodic abstraction, while two very different versions of 'Creator' explore deep and dubby house motifs. As always: sublime!

Recorded at Hamburg's Laiszhalle Philharmony 'True Life / In Flames' follows up on Christian Naujoks' debut album from 2009, and this time around Dial's cherished composer relinquish all electronic instrumentation for an authentic and intimate chamber music sound. Recommended.
