Digital Mystikz's Mala is well-known for keeping his most prized dubs close to his chest, and this mentality extends to his protégé and Deep Medi Musik artist, Quest. Always putting quality over quantity, the dubwise young producer presents this astonishing set of his most sought-after material.

Silkie's debut album appeared mid-2009 in the midst the seismic shift in the dubstep/UK bass landscape, reinforcing values set by mentor and Deep Medi label boss, Mala. Now in 2011, Silkie returns with the follow-up volume innovating further on his defiantly urban signature sound.

Tectonic chief and dubstep luminary, Pinch, makes his debut contribution to Mala's Deep Medi Musik. Leading off with a classic Pinch swagger, 'Swish' pummels you with jackhammer stabs and growling synths, while 'Tunnel' steps nimbly with a cutting-edge uptempo beat leaning towards jungle/footwork.

Mala's Deep Medi imprint has kept an open ear for genre-bending productions, and the mysterious Old Apparatus project definitely fits the bill: Two 9-minute tracks oscillate between ambient electronica, brooding sound-scapes and melancholic, Burialesque dubstep. Great, epic listening music.

Tectonic's Cyrus appearing on Deep Medi this time around, with 'Manhatten Blues', a lovely minimalistic dubstep piece, built around a simple chord stab and a massive subbass breakdown, and 'Decision', which rides a midrange wobble that is actually a processed vocal sample. Sick.

Second instalment of Deep Medi's effort to make their previously vinyl-only releases available in digital format. Deep Medi's release policy and quality always raised the bar for the whole scene, and this compilation proves how damn good the music is which they've released so far. Essential and heavily recommended.
