Selected as Artist of week #20
Jee Day's second single for the mighty DFA camp combines a hypnotic whirlwind of percussions, Gavin-Russom-induced acid trance and Jee Young Sim's almost Siouxsie-like chants, from which the Ron Roc Dub distills an early-90s, rather Snap!-style quality. Psychoactive hippie techno.

Leading off a barrage of new DFA singles by a seeming bunch of newcomers (like Juan MacLean under his Peach Melba guise), Fall On Your Sword is original LCD Soundsystem guitarist Phil Mossman, who has teamed up with partner Will Bates for two tracks of epic slow-spun synthie disco. Nice.

The inimitable Gavin Russom gets at it again, this time showcasing a more disco-oriented side to his collaboration with vocalist Viva Ruiz. It wouldn't by Russom however it there wasn't a psychedelic edge to their sexy, percussive new single 'Touch' on DFA. Recommended.

Can't Feel My Knees (Dub)
(Track 04 on this EP)
Just their second proper release after 2008's acclaimed single on Italians Do It Better, the New York duo drop this one on DFA. 'In A Hole' an ultra-reduced, percussion and synth-teased tearjerker and 'Can't Feel My Knees' pulsing minimalist melancholy with brill dubs of both. Spectacular.

After years of helping other people perfecting their craft as DFA's in-house engineer, Gunnar Bjerk releases his debut single on the label. 'Back Then' is an easy-going and light-hearted pop tune, while 'Stay' underpins its disco pop with a more upfront beat. Slightly over the top, but a fun single nevertheless.

Full Grown Man
(Track 03 on this EP)
Washington-based tech-pop duo Benoit & Sergio are on a roll: After releases for Thesongsays and Spectral Sound they land on DFA for 'Boy Trouble', a sweet synth-pop song which is backed by the more laid-back 'Full Grown Man' and 'What I've Lost', as well as a Visionquest remix. Nice one.
Tiago Miranda has long served on the circuit with remixes and releases on labels like Italians Do It Better and Disco Devil. Now on DFA, he dazzles with finely balanced disco house, 'Disambiguation' with its synth swells and metallic slashes and 'Nada A Perder' perkier with an itchy piano riff. Lush.
