Started out in the mid 1990's by Peter Adarkwah and his partner Ben to promote parties that shouldn't be restricted by any genres or styles,
from Brazilian grooves, 70's funk, jazz, hip hop to techno they wanted to hear a bit of everything when they started throwing club nights in London. In late 1996 they expanded their project into a label with the name BBE (Barely Breaking Even) with the first release of what should become an acclaimed compilation series named 'Stop and Listen'.
With its motto 'real music for real people' the label has manifested its position with releases from all the different styles they had in mind right from the start.
