Phon_o, with releases on Shitkatapult and Cytrax of the past twelve years, became a firm member of the 50Weapons family with a stream of EPs last year. The full-length format gives perfect scope for his agile electronics infused with dubstep and UKG and poppier tracks with vocalist Tunde Olaniran. Great album.

Following up the excellent 'Dispel Dances' album late last year, one-man dancefloor offensive Anstam returns. The broodier mood has lifted somewhat, 'Intuit's playful woozy synths over kicking stern beats, 'Feed The Pigs' a loose meandering broken ditty and 'Whiskey' a drunken tropical fairground excursion. Badass!

Shining a light into the dark corners of our souls, underground techno with an edge is the theme of this week's update. Freely quoting dubstep and industrial, electronica and house next to the style's Detroit roots, techno has become more difficult to pinpoint more...

Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka's excellent full-length debut oscillates between the poles of funked-up Berlin-style techno and dreamy, Mount-Kimbie-esque dubstep pop. An absolute stunner and one of the finest album's of the year so far.

The second '50 Waepons' compilation once again features a who-is-who of bass music producers: Modeselektor lend their seal of quality to the selection and Cosmin TRG, Anstam, FaltyDL, Benjamin Damage, and Bok Bok deliver in style. Essential.

Berlin bass boy Phon.o finds a new home in Modeselektor's Monkeytown label for his new double pack: 'ABAW 723' and 'Sad Happiness' tick all the right boxes, from dub elements to anthemic harmonies for maximum melodramatic effect. Nice one.
