Operating since 1999 in Frankfurt's neighbouring Offenbach, Robert Johnson has become a fixture in Germany's club landscape over the past decade. From now on Robert Johnson will regularly recommend releases to zero" visitors, starting with Rick Wilhite's brilliant house music collection, 'Vibes'.
It's safe to say that Detroit house music would not be the same today if it wasn't for the involvement of Rick 'The Godson' Wilhite. Part of the 3 Chairs crew, alongside Kenny Dixon Jr. and Theo Parrish, he might not achieved the prominence of his peers, but be it for his (now closed) record store, Vibes, his ground-breaking productions for Sound Signature, or his mentoring of young artists like Kyle Hall, Rick Wilhite is an integral figure in Detroit's house music scene.
'Vibes - New & Rare Music' has Wilhite collect some of the finest unheard pieces of Motor City underground music. Theo Parrish contributes the album's opener, 'When I'm Gone', and Glenn Underground and Ricardo Miranda continue the track's jazzy vibe, until Rick Wilhite steps to the plate for the first time with his rare and classic remix for Urban Tribe's 'D2000'. 'Microburst' follows, an amazing collaboration with Kyle Hall, whose pumping solo work, 'After Fall' was allegedly written when he was just 15 years old. Additional tracks from fellow Detroiters like Vincent Halliburton, DJ Raybone and Marcellus Pittman round off an excellent and lovingly assembled album of underground house music.
'Vibes - New & Rare Music' is now available for the special price of Euro 7.99.
