Finland's oldest city and capital until 1812, Turku is still a regional capital today and an important location for culture and commerce. During the 1990's and 2000's Turku played an important role in Finland's electronic music scene, as a home to Pan Sonic, the Säkho label, and the Koneisto festival for electronic music. Turku is going to be European Capital of Culture in 2011, which should further benefit the city's art and music scenes.
