The Netherlands' seventh largest city, Almere is located close to Amsterdam on the opposite side of the IJsselmeer. The land on which it is built was won as late as the early 70s through the construction of the Zuiderzeewerke dam project, making Almere a very modern city with plenty of contemporary architecture.
