You may call it futuristic dubstep, minimal drum'n bass or next generation electro, but Instra:mental and dBridge have coined their own term for it: Autonomic. Already the title of their acclaimed podcast, the British producers have just released their genre-defining Fabriclive mix under the Autonomic name and are gearing up to launch their own eponymous label.
Both dBridge and Instra:mental originally became known as drum 'n bass artists - dBridge as part of the influential Bad Company crew and Instra:mental with early recordings on Source Direct's Demonic label. Unhappy with the stagnation of their genre, they have however been toying with the established formulas until arriving at a unique style of their own: Keeping the pace, but doing away with the genre's stereotypic rolling breaks. Their music is fast, futuristic funk, stripped down to its core.

'Autonomic' borrows distinct elements from dubstep, but also looks towards other genre's for inspiration: Instra:mental went as far as recording 'Leave It All Behind' for Apple Pips, a bona-fide Detroit electro track, which nevertheless fits perfectly with their other output releases on their much lauded Nonplus label.

With their release of the 50th edition of the Fabriclive mix series, dBridge and Instra:mental are not only getting ready to take the Autonomic sound on the road, but also plan to start their own joint label of the same name, expected to launch before summer.
