Hello,

We just couldn't resist. At a time when all of Europe seems transfixed on a small leather ball, the temptation was just to great to pit the two World Cup finalists against each other on a musical playing field.

This week we have selected 11 current favourites from the two countries still in the race, Spain and The Netherlands. With veteran all-stars like Orlando Voorn, Legowelt and Speedy J, the Dutch side seems to have a slight upper hand, but don't underestimate the Spanish team with young, hungry players like John Talabot, Tadeo and Dubbyman in their line-up.

The winner is of course yours to decide.

Enjoy!
 Team Netherlands

Maxi-Single released 14-06-2010 on Ostgut Ton
Complementing this month's excellent 'Berghain 04' mix from Ben Klock, Ostgut Ton serves up a split release from Martyn (3024) and Roman Lindau (Fachwerk). Martyn's brooding contribution 'Miniluv' is backed by Lindau's warehouse monster 'Keppra'. Killer tracks.
EP released 20-05-2010 on Eat Concrete
In preparation for his new album, flying Dutchman Aardvark unleashes a new platter of heavy, dub infused beat slices much like in the vain of his acclaimed Bloom series, even featuring the Gaslamp Killer on one cut. After extensive listening we concluded in unison: Aardvarck for President!
EP released 16-06-2010 on A Made Up Sound
Arguably the most innovative producer currently operating in the Netherlands, A Made Up Sound (a.k.a. 2562) is blazing his own path, crafting a hybrid sound of house, techno, dubstep and broken beat. Here he presents his latest dancefloor-aimed mutations, 'Alarm' b/w 'Crisis'. Brilliant!
EP released 25-06-2010 on Strange Life Records
Legowelt and Orgue Electronique revive their Chicago Shags alias for this new five-tracker. 'Flamingo World' is old-school acid house crossed with the pair's obsession for hyperactive rave sounds, italo disco and horror movie soundtracks. Highly addictive stuff!
EP released 28-05-2010 on Traum Schallplatten
Applescal follows up his 'A Mishmash Of Changing Moods' album with a bunch of fine remixes. Nuno Dos Santos turns 'Black Spiral' into a deep and hypnotic dub-house track, Umbral, Sistema and Mig Dfoe round off the bill.
Maxi-Single released 21-05-2010 on Electric Deluxe
Always pushing the boundaries of techno music, Speedy J unleashes 'Trails', a slow-burning, washed-out 14-minute monster of a track. Comes with a more functional bonus beat dub, and not one, not two, but four different versions by Glasgow's Edit Select.
Maxi-Single released 19-05-2010 on Green
'Soba', a track you could just listen for hours on end, and its counterpart 'Udon' further raise the bar for this home grown artist of Amsterdam's label Delsin. His second EP this year after his Benny Rodriguez collaboration for Smallville, we can only hope he continues in the same vein.
Maxi-Single released 17-05-2010 on Cocoon Recordings
Prime-time material coming from Rotterdam's Joris Voorn, who delivers a clear-cut disco-tech bomb for Cocoon with 'The Secret'. Think Paperclip People's 'Throw' with an extra Ibiza edge and you get the idea. Quite likely not a secret much longer, so better get this quick.
Maxi-Single released 11-05-2010 on 100% Pure
Two functional house tracks by Bart Skils aimed for prime time dance floor use. Nice atmosphere throughout and quality production just as we are used to from this man. A solid piece of work you definitely can't go wrong with if you have to entertain a crowd. Check.
EP released 04-02-2010 on Connaisseur Recordings
Building atmospheres and dubby elements played a key role on the debut album, 'Elemental Assets', by Amsterdam's Estroe. Again on Connaisseur, its now down to artists such as Steve Rachmad, Audiofly, Roberto Rodriguez, Ripperton and Joel Mull to contribute to this huge remix package.

Maxi-Single released 28-06-2010 on Cyclical Tracks
Cut from the freshest cloth of new Spanish artists, Tadeo continues to work the links between techno and minimal, bringing in a wide range of influences from Jamaican music to original Detroit sounds. All of which are very apparent from highlights such as 'Oasys' and 'Indiferencia Ante La Situación'.
Maxi-Single released 23-04-2010 on Phonobox Records
Pulshar (a.k.a. Aphro Sainz and Pablo Bolivar) have been amazing us with their idiosyncratic vision of electronic dub. Their new single has remixes by Workshop's Even Tuell (which is utterly brilliant!), Spanish dub-techno act Deeps Edayar and a strangely catchy take by Sistema. Check!
Maxi-Single released 14-06-2010 on Apnea
Imek & Xpansul serve up 'La Salud' for remix duties from Pfirter & Grindvik, Marko Fürstenberg and From Karaoke To Stardom. Pfirter & Grindvik's is a slow grinding techno track, incorporating its clicks and bleeps, alongside its swirling pads to maximum effect. Also check Fürstenberg's dub house take!
Album released 17-05-2010 on Regular Label
A rather international set of producers take a stab at remixing Barcalona-resident Pablo Bolivar's second artist album, 'Recall'. Billy Dalessandro (USA), Nhar (France), Audision (Germany), Noah Pred (Canada) and NOP (Japan) all fish in the deeper end of the techno pond. Check.
Maxi-Single released 28-05-2010 on Permanent Vacation
Getting rave reviews across the press and an invitation to this year's Sónar, John Talabot is quite the man of the moment, and 'Matilda's Dream' is definitely another reason to check out his work: Epic, drifting acid house with a deep and melodic cosmic disco vibe. Nice Jaques Renault remix too.
Compilation released 07-06-2010 on Regular Label
Pablo Bolivar takes a look back the past 8 years worth of releases from the Barcelona-based House/Minimal label, Regular, and compiles a set of their most essential cuts. Included are tracks by René Breitbarth, Maetrik, Oliver Koletzki, and Bolivar, himself.
Compilation released 17-06-2010 on Dubhe Recordings
For their thirteenth release Dubhe records compile an exclusive compilation of mostly unreleased material from young talents such as Oren Bi, Eartone or Superferric diving deep into soulful house territories with a pinch of electro funk. Consistent compilation through out.
EP released 16-11-2009 on Yore
Alongside his brother Dubbyman, Above Smoke represents the new breed of Spanish deep house artists - this time on Cologne's excellent Yore label. Nice dubby vibes give way to disco references, deep downbeat, and late-night atmospheres on the concluding title track. Ace!
EP released 02-03-2007 on Plus 8
Paco Osuna is one of the most prominent DJs in Spain, and rightfully so, as anyone who's seen him play can attest. He's been for years associated with Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 camp, and 'Crazy' is one of his fine releases for the label: functional, beatdriven minimal techno. Classic DJ tool.
