MORE TECHNO ESSENTIALS

Where 2007's 'Proto Acid' had A Guy Called Gerald revisit his techno roots with digital technology, 'Tronic Jazz' injects the soul back into his sound, harking back to the sound of Detroit and 808 State. Essential album!

A brilliantly varied sophomore album by Guillaume Coutu Dumont, whose 'Breaking the Fourth Wall' takes up influences from techno, electronica, jazz, reggae, and even throws some blues-rock elements into the mix - we kid you not. Features lovely collaborations with dOP and Dave Aju.

Mind blowing exclusive dub-techno package by Vangelis and Vidal Vargas a.k.a. Raíz. The brothers' pounding original gets a rework by Historia Y Violencia's own Silent Servant, who adds slightly more upfront and shuffled 909-beats to the track's relentlessly driving chords. Killer release.

Maxi-Single released 16-05-2010 on Soma
UK techno heroes Slam and The Black Dog take on each other's tracks for a killer single: Slam deliver a stripped down version of 'CCTV Nation', one of the hits on Black Dog's 'Further Vexations' album, while Black Dog spice up Slam's 'Azure' with some serious Detroit flavours. Devastating.

Five years after kick-starting the Ostgut Ton label, André Galluzzi returns with this 2 track foray into cutting-edge hypnotic territories alongside Dana Ruh. Switching between DJ tool and extended moments of elation, both tracks come highly recommended!
Alter Ego's Roman Flügel drops the companion single to his Live At Robert Johnson mix: 'Brian Le Bon' is a deep and trancey house track with a Derrick May meets Guru Josh feel, while 'N.M.I.S.M.D.' is a sparse electro tool using the good old 'Ah Yeah' sample. Unconventional and highly recommended.

Lawrence weaves ghostly strings into the characteristic hook line of 'Leaving Berlin', while Kink & Neville Watson put their distinct old-school flavour to work with their take on 'It's What We Do'. Sweet remixes for two highlights of Costello's recent album!

Acid heads rejoice: Dutch 030303 imprint has assembled an all-star line-up from the braindance universe to contribute tracks to this excellent compilation: JTC, Luke Vibert, Ceephax, Kettel and D'Arcangelo are all aboard, getting their hands dirty on their much-twiddled 303 knobs.

Yoav B.'s releases might be few and far between, but most certainly worth the wait. 'Higher Love' is a slow-spiralling funk stomper with broken beat allusion that come into full effect on 'Love Dub', which is best described as free-style wonky house. 'Soul Surrender' ends the EP on a reflective note. Great.

No one other than Mr. Wolfgang Voigt himself, Datenzauber commutes high-speed on the Cologne-Düsseldorf expressway, combining Voigt's classic marching beats with pop melodies lifted straight from Kraftwerk. One of the nicest Speicher releases in a while!

Cocoon doesn't touch anything without hit potential, and this split release is no exception: 'Hey Now' is a peak-time percussive techno bomb, while the dream team of Johannes Heil & Heiko M/S/O delivers a killer house track. Big Release.

Neo-house shooting stars SIS introduces two girls to us via his debut single for the Connoisseur label: Both 'Linda' and 'Lola' have long drifting breakdowns and meandering percussions working in their favour, but if we had to decide, we'd go for Linda's seductive chords and nicely processed vocals.
Prime-time material coming from Rotterdam's Joris Voorn, who delivers a clear-cut disco-tech bomb for Cocoon with 'The Secret'. Think Paperclip People's 'Throw' with an extra Ibiza edge and you get the idea. Quite likely not a secret much longer, so better get this quick.

EP released 05-05-2010 on Plus 8
Niederflur return to Plus 8 under their Datasoul guise. 'Digital Disorder' and 'PanScan' are two nicely reduced techno tracks with echoing arpeggiated chords, while 'Hexabug' and 'Yellow Knives' add a housey flavour to the mix. Yet another spot-on release for Richie Hawtin's legendary imprint.
Hyper-productive Brendon Moeller comes through once again, this time for Denmark's Echochord label. Clocking in at over 8:00 'Mainline' is a washed out monster of a dub-techno track, hung out to dry a bit for Robag Wruhme's more Chicago wildpitch flavoured remix. Nice.

Quince and Benny Rodrigues team up for an outstanding new release on the always great Smallville label. '7up' is a bass blowing beast created for dancefloor’s magic at its best. 'Sweet Potatoes' is a deeply kicking Detroit Electro tune backed with 303s and strings. Awesome!

Following up on last year's 'Centrik EP' on the Delsin-affiliated M>O>S, Morphine Records' label boss Ra.H dishes out a heaping portion of jack for his latest, 'Musafir EP'. 'Running Out' stomps along building unrelenting tension from paranoia synth leads and schizophrenic bleeps.

After his more than excellent releases on Crème a couple of weeks ago, Toronto's Stuart Li better known as Basic Soul Unit strikes again with a monster three tracker on Hamburg's lovely Room With A View label. His unique signature connecting the old and the new is more than true house lovers can ask for.

EP released 09-05-2010 on Rekids
Thessaloniki's Nikola Gala has a talent for hit tunes (remember 'Kilo Tango' on Ibadan), and for Rekids he delivers five of them in one go. Funky disco-tech slammer 'The Pump' leads the way, but the other four tracks are sure-fire dance-floor weapons as well. Prime-time material this.
Awesome three-tracker by Eric Estornel, who pulls all registers of advanced production techniques for 'So Real'. Nicely processed vocals, drowsy dub-chords, tense rhythms and foreboding soundscapes are the building block of his delicate arrangements. This is what techno 2010 should sound like.
And.Id follows up his recent 'Back To Back' mix with a crafty single, drawing on contemporary techhouse ('I Will Be There'), layered pianos ('Five') and Kanny Larkin-style Detroit techno ('Erotica') for inspiration. Yet another solid release for Mobilee that will charm the dance-floors.
A surprising slice of pop by Marek Hemmann, who teams up with Fabian Reichelt for 'Left / Right', two vocal techno groovers with a bluesy country music feel. Just the right tracks for the summer festival season.
