Co-written by James Murphy and Nancy Whang, the heart-breaking 'Take 'Em Up' was one of the definite highlights on Shit Robot's recent 'From The Cradle To The Rave' album, and now deservedly sees a single release via the mighty DFA label.
The included remixes come from a great line-up of post-disco heroes: Edit king Mark E delivers a hypnotic disco take, grooving along nicely at 105bpm, while recent Toby Tobias collaborator Marcus Marr speed things up and strips 'em down simultaneously for his funkified and delightfully percussive version. The EP's two digital bonus tracks have Catalan shooting star John Talabot take his remix into cosmic territory, and Kompakt veteran Michael Mayer handing in a kraftwerkish poptronica edit of another Shit Robot track, 'Tuff Enuff'. The single further comes with an amazing video directed by Eoghan Kidney, which features the track's singer Nancy Whang (The Juan McLean, LCD Soundsystem) rotoscoped all over the streets of New York in a blur of psychedelic colours. |
