Back in the late 1990s, Karl Moestl and Uwe Walkner were part of the Viennese downbeat movement that swept the globe. The pair released two EPs on Kruder & Dorfmeister's seminal G-Stone Recordings imprint, the 'Bluish EP' in 1999, followed by 'Heaven Or Hell' the next year.
Despite critical acclaim, Walkner.Moestl disbanded after the release of 'Heaven Or Hell', with both producers dedicating themselves to other projects. Karl Moestl's ensuing solo productions include noteworthy remixes, such as his take on Carl Douglas' famous 'Kung Fu Fighting', which appeared next to versions by Adrian Sherwood and Rob Smith in 2004. Moestl further collaborated with Richard Dorfmeister, founded the duo Cusmos, as well as his own label, DEFusion Records. Since its inception the imprint has been home to the output of fellow Austrian artists, like well-known radio DJ Functionist and the accomplished hip-hop of his debut album 'Coalitions Pt. 1', as well as Moestl's solo productions which have increasingly taken a turn for the electronic, as evident on his recent dub-techno influenced 'Electric Wood EP'. Now, in 2010, Walkner.Moestl have reunited. Ten years after their last release, the duo returns with 'Structures', an album of 16 new tracks as well as three videos, which were directed by Karl Moestl himself. 'Structures' is an accomplished album and presents a remarkable update to the Walkner.Moestl sound by fusing dubstep styles with house, techno and downbeat elements, while adding a distinct pop appeal with the inclusion of numerous vocalists. |

| For his zero" podcast Karl Moestl recaptures the spirit of 'Structures' with a one-hour mix of techno, dubstep and what lies in-between the two. His selection ranges from straight and dubby Minilogue and Mike Dehnert tracks to more abstract beats by SBTRKT, Modeselektor and Falty DL, balancing moments of peak-time intensity with mellow and reflective moods. | |||||
