We start into a new year of zero" podcasts with a very special guest behind the decks, someone who is celebrating his 20th anniversary in the techno business in 2011: acclaimed DJ and veteran producer Dave Tarrida.

Tarrida's career started in Edinburgh, where he set up the Sativa club nights together with friends back in 1991. Over the five years of its existence Sativa became Scotland's best known techno club and eventually turned into an equally famous label, Sativae, run by Tarrida and partner Steve Glencross, releasing records by artists like Neil Landstrumm, Cristian Vogel, DJ Hell, Adam X and Jamie Lidell.

In 1999 Tarrida retraced his Spanish roots by relocating his studio from foggy Edinburgh to sunny Barcelona. The same year he joined the camp of Berlin's Tresor label, at the time at the peak of its creative influence. Several EPs, such as his experimental techno classic 'Postmortem Pop', were followed by his debut album, 'Paranoid', in 2001.

Over the past decade Dave Tarrida has been busy producing and remixing for a large number of underground techno imprints, From Shitkatapult and Musick to labels as diverse as Relax2000, input - output inc., BPitch Control, Pomelo, and EevoNext. Despite spreading his musical output far and wide, Dave Tarrida has stayed true to his unmistakable style - raw and headstrong techno that subverts its a glitched-up sound aesthetics with shuffled funk grooves and a taste for menacing saw-tooth bass lines.
Dave Tarrida's podcast for zero" highlights why his popularity as a DJ has not waned the least over the course of two decades. Combining banging rave tracks, moments of experimental sophistication, as well as two old-school classics, his set includes productions by artists such as Phil Kieran, Shadow Dancer, Robert Hood, and Armando, as well as a recent highlight from Tarrida's own discography, the banging Ascii Disko rework of 'Wheel of Misfortune'.
