| Funk Du Monde: An Interview with Débruit by gl03 |
| French beat maker Débruit has recently been setting dance floors on fire with his mixture of electronic hip hop, 2Step and globalised funk. We track the neo-Londoner down for an interview. |
A whole generation of artists seems to be currently conspiring against the dogma of rhythmic precision in electronic music. Injecting the groove back into the music, most of these artists reject their easy categorisation under the 'wonky' label - a term coined by the music press to subsume the groove-infused electronic hip-hop that has lately been coming forward from many corners of the world - via L.A. and Amsterdam, Dublin or Vienna.
Eager to expand the geographical spectrum associated with this kind of music even more is Xavier Thomas a.k.a. Débruit: Congolese basement basement bars in suburban Paris have influenced his music just as much as has the multi-cultural London neighbourhood of Dalston, where the born Breton has relocated to in late 2009. Débruit is currently recording for London's Civil Music and own his Musique Large label, and he's just released his 'Heart Beats For Haiti' EP to benefit the victims of the recent earthquake. |
| Acid Washed 'General Motors, Detroit, America' - Video |
Parisian avant-garde label Record Makers (Sebastien Tellier, Arpanet) has commissioned a video from British artist Anthony Burrill for the current single of its yet anonymous Acid Washed project, 'General Motors, Detroit, America'.

| dOP |
Should you bump into the guys from Nôze, chances are that their close friends dOP are not far behind - their tight affiliation with the Circus Company camp has brought the Parisian three-piece major attention lately, and the connection between the two crews surpasses mere friendship: dOP's horn section and Balkanesque rhythms have been a major influence to Nôze's recent efforts, and witnessing the two...

| Music Bless You: Infiné by gl03 |
If you decide to start your own label as a world-famous techno producer, an aspiring classical pianist might not exactly be the most obvious choice for a first signing. The case is a bit different however when the individuals involved are in fact Agoria and Franceso Tristano, and the label in question was soon to become one of the hottest new properties in French electronic music: Infiné.
| Infiné |
Founded by renowned French producer Agoria in 2006, Infiné has become one of the most daring and exiting electronic music labels of recent times. Despite covering a wide stylistic field, which reaches from Francesco Tristano's neo-classic to the pop electronica of Apparat or danceable techno by Danton Eeprom, Infiné's releases are united by a common musical language and vision, which intends to serve as a...

Grenoble born Caroline Hervé, a.k.a. Miss Kittin, has in recent years firmly established herself in the top-star league of the electronic music scene. With first major successes as a vocalist for longtime collaborator The Hacker (think 'Frank Sinatra' for International DJ Gigolo Records) or the likes of Sven Väth and T.Raumschmiere, Kittin released her first album 'I Com' in 2004, the tracks of which have...

| Pantha Du Prince |
Alter ego of Dial Records artist Hendrick Weber, Pantha Du Prince has become everybody's darling since his 2007 smash album 'This Bliss' and is possibly the only man who can join the dots between My Bloody Valentine, Detroit and minimal techno. Born in Bad Wildungen, Germany, Weber now lives in Paris, where he has ended up by way of Kassel, New York and Hamburg.

| A Focus on Record Makers: Progressive Pop from Paris by koko |
| In a now defunct bakery in the picturesque surroundings of the Parisian Montmartre quarter lies the office of Record Makers. Instead of baguettes, gateaux and croissants one of the most diverse and interesting labels around is delighting and surprising the gourmets of electronic music. |
It all started in 2000 when Marc Teissier du Cros, Stephane Elfassi and Air teamed up for the release of 'The Virgin Suicides' soundtrack. Ever since then their romantic and cinematic vision of music has drawn a line through the label's releases and connects all artists, as diverse as they may be.
Record Makers does not confine itself to a single genre - what is more important is the feeling transmitted by the music. The Record Makers experience starts with the artwork and ends at the last bar of music, taking the listener on a trip through memories and emotions. When electro scientist Arpanet consorts with French troubadour Sébastien Tellier or rave zombie Kavinsky it does not seem so surprising any more, and suddenly all these things seem to be connected. Like soundtracks for certain situations, each and every release represents a piece in a puzzle. Arpanet's first album 'Wireless Internet' stands among the finest productions of the genre as well as Kavinsky's '1986' EP, which according to rumours was recorded in the label's basement. |
| Nôze |
Brought together by rather obscure family relations, Rumanian-born Nicolas Sfintescu and Frenchman Ezéchiel Pailhès started releasing music as Nôze in 2004 and since that time run the Circus Company label. Known for their off-beat sense of humour, Nôze produce rough and dirty minimal house tracks, often throwing charming Tom Waits-style vocals or obscure cut-up sound sources into the mix. With their...

| Circus Company |
Started in 2003 by the boys behind Nôze, Parisian label Circus Company has been pioneering a special brand of cut-up and crunchy minimal techno. The label's style has been significantly shaped by Ark, whose 'Alleluyark' series made up its first four releases, but within recent year's many other known artists have contributed fitting material to Circus Company, including Dj Koze, Audio Werner or Guillaume &...

| Sébastien Tellier |
Multi-instrumentalist Sébastien Tellier released his first album 'L'incroyable Vertité', in 2001. The first album already contained the typical Sébastien Tellier sound which should three years later manifest in La Ritournelle, probably one of the best pop-songs in the new millenium. Being a great entertainer, he filled concert halls all over Europe and the United States delivering his mixture of...
