FEATURED RELEASE
It's easy to forget how short ago David Kennedy first popped up on our radar, given the generous amount of stunning music he has treated us to so far. From his early outings on 2nd Drop to his productions for Apple Pips, Hemlock, Aus Music, and his own Hessle Audio imprint, every one of his releases has managed to sound fresh and surprising.
Switching between percussive experimentalism and melodic elegance with grace and ease, Kennedy is certainly not an artist content with rehashing a tried and tested formula over and over again.
On the contrary, Kennedy's productions as Ramadanman and, most recently, Pearson Sound never feel short of clever ideas and unsuspected turns, incorporating diverse elements from genres like techno, electro, juke, and jungle.
His highly anticipated FABRICLIVE mix stays true do his inventive and interdisciplinary approach: Deep and spacious dubstep classics by Pinch and Burial alternate with grimy r'n'b by MJ Cole & Wiley, UK funky flavours by Julio Bashmore and Girl Unit, grungy house by Marcello Napoletano and Levon Vincent, and footwerk sounds by Addison Groove.
Throw in a sizeable number of Ramadanman / Pearson Sound exclusives, such as his unreleased remix of Joy Orbison's 'GR Etiquette', and what you get is a mix that is not only a testament to David Kennedy's production brilliance, but an indispensable cross-section of contemporary bass music. Essential.

Finally following up Efdemin's mighty 'Chicago' album of last year, the first part of remixes lands. Ace.

Following his Burial-style electronica explorations as Desolate, Sven Weisemann returns to Mojuba with two deep dub house cuts. 'Emphazised' punctures a seductive 909 groove with fat chord stabs, while 'Caprice' adheres to Basic Channel's reductionist principles. Wonderful release.
Lawrence taking it deep: 'Just Like Heaven' revolves around a distant piano phrase, carried by a subtle bass line, an open hi-hat house groove and transparent wild pitch strings. |

First full EP on Ostgut from Berghain resident Norman Nodge shows a reduced and contemplative side. Excellent.

Surrender is the only option...

Not that Darko Esser's slate needed cleaning to begin with, but this is certainly one of his finest productions to date. A complex snare-driven Detroit techno groove offsets 'Clean Slate's simple dub chord pattern to great effect, and remixes come from DVS1 (Transmat, Klockwerks) and Lucy. Highly recommended.

Excellent!

Ghostly compile Gold Panda's earliest releases onto one album, with his ingenious fuzzy electronica hits such as 'Quitters Raga' and 'Back Home' still shining alongside his more experimental downtempo works from his debut 'Before' EP and the rare track 'Like Totally'. Awesome material for fans and newcomers.
Anne-James Chaton creates his tracks from cut-up news announcements, endlessly looping small text fragments until they develop an oddly hypnotic charm. Previously featured on Alva Noto's 'Unitxt' this a full album of his recordings. Brilliant? Annoying? Brilliantly annoying? You make the call, but it's definitely unique.
First full length album from Sven Weisemann's Desolate moniker sees him explore ambient, dubby atmospheres with a spine-tingling melancholy. While the Burial influence is clear, tracks like 'Pain' and 'Divinus' show how Desolate's sound fuses this emotion uniquely with his love of house and techno. Great.
As one half of Sun Electric and Bus, Tom Thiel has amassed a sizeable discography over the decades, yet this is his first album under his own name. And it's a real beauty, with Sun Electric's cosmic electronica giving way to tender ambient moments, subtle house motifs, and spacious dub techniques. Excellent and highly recommended.

Four essential Mika Vainio cuts from 1998 see their long overdue digital release. This is classic Pan_sonic-style material, with glistening sine wave arpeggios over radically reduced techno and electro-inspired beats. Completely hypnotic and devastating on proper sound systems.

Album released 18-03-2011 on Sinnbus
Bodi Bill skillfully fuse indie-pop with influences from minimal techno and glitchy electronica on their fourth album, 'What?'. Such a cross-over is probably only possible in Berlin, and the electronic elements nicely fit the melancholic vibe of the album's ten songs, making it highly recommended for fans of Apparat and Raz Ohara.
What can be said about the return of Sheffield synth legends The Human League, a decade after their last album? Well, 'Credo' doesn't hold a candle to 'Dare' (or in fact the seminal 'Reproduction'), but it's not that bad either, only slightly marred by overproduction and offering some quite snappy songs. Check.

Prins Thomas signs Japanese DJ legend Ageishi to his Internasjonal label with 'Rain Parade', a delicate organic disco groover. The Prins' own 'Miks' is a more subdued, squelchy acid affair, while Mark E absolutely nails it with a sparse electronic beat, and deep, sputtering chords. Killer!
Norwegian disco royalty Prins Thomas appears with some jacking electro house. 'Lang Tung Ting' has a sprawling fat acid bassline, 'Tom Peng Pung' continues similarly with a floatier space vibe, whilst 'Ny Maskin' comes more generously dosed with cosmic disco feelers and with a bonus percussive workout.

EP released 17-03-2011 on Trouw
Andre Obin's 'Soft Rain' is a slice of melancholy electropop with an indie-dance appeal and a distinctly 80s vibe. Taking on the remixes, Trouw's debut release artist Patrice Bäumel ups the glittering synths, Melon reduces it down to a dreamy house groover and Fascination's mix douses it with gliding synths. Nice.
