&Me's 'F.I.R.' was one of our favourite club tracks last year, but the boys from Berlin's Keinemusik have much more going for them than one hit, great moustaches and a common love for BBQs - their own skateboard line for instance.
Keinemusik, which literally translates as 'No(t)music', is more than just another techno-house label. It's a tightly knit collective of some of Berlin's most out and about DJs and producers - a 'DIY cosmos', as Rampa, one of the main guys behind the project, describes it.
The crew's hands-on approach, which includes hand-stamping vinyls and silk-screening bags, should not be mistaken for amateurism. Keinemusik's members all bring their fair share of experience into the project. Take &Me for instance, a former collaborator of Terranova and producer for DJ Hell's 'Teufelswerk' album (including the P.Diddy collaboration 'The DJ'), or Adam Port, who is also releasing on the Tiefschwarz label, Souvenir Music. Most recent endeavours are Keinemusik's first collective release, 'Workparty One', an excellent showcase of modern tech-house grooves and imaginative vocals, and their own skateboard line, designed by Monja Gentschow, who is also responsible for the great watercolour artwork that graces the label's releases. |
