Hello,

Whether you'll be spending your Easter holidays on a sunny beach or on a darkened dance-floor, our selection this week should have something in store for you: Cosmic electronica from the likes of Argy (under his new Zodiac Free Arts Club guise), Conrad Schnitzler and Roll The Dice, plus dancefloor-friendly disco explorations by Gatto Fritto, Todd Terje and Worst Friends.

It is further Vienna's disco poster boy Wolfram, who supplies our podcast this week, hot on the heels of his striking full-length debut for Permanent Vacation, which features Hercules & Love Affair, Holy Ghost!, Haddaway(!), Legowelt and many more illustrious guests.
 FEATURED RELEASE

Album released 22-04-2011 on Permanent Vacation
Founded by by Conrad Schnitzler und Hans-Joachim Roedelius in late 1967, Berlin's Zodiak Free Arts Lab was one of the epicentres of Germany's booming krautrock scene at the time, providing a space for experimentation to bands like Ash Ra Tempel and Tangerine Dream.

Greek techno producer Argy was obviously inspired by the many myths and legends surrounding the short-lived club when he moved to Berlin. Setting up a temporary studio in his apartment for six months in 2010, he invited friends and collaborators to recreate the Zodiak's free-spirited and improvisational vibe.

The resulting nine tracks make up the project's 'Floating World' album, released via Munich's always adventurous Permanent Vacation label. In its largely beat-less, meandering arrangements the album pays homage to bands like Kluster, Neu!, early Kraftwerk, and (explicitly) Popol Vuh with dense layers of synth arpeggios, guitar echoes, and spatial effects.

The illusion of an album recorded some 40 years ago is so successfully that the question when a lovingly crafted tribute becomes a simulacrum is certainly a valid one. 'Floating World' is nonetheless a sublime listening experience and can only be applauded for its attempt to draw a new generation of listeners to the seminal recordings of the genre's pioneers. Highly recommended.

From subtle disco pop tracks like 'Hex' to cosmic synth-strumentals like 'Solar Flares Burn For You' London's Gatto Fritto knows how to arrange his densely layered pads and rhythms, finely balancing balancing pop appeal and complexity, while always maintaining a distinct melancholic mood. Fine album.
Album released 11-04-2011 on Lo Recordings
France's Bernard Fevre returns with a brand new album of his signature dark disco sound on Lo Recordings. Featuring high profile guests such as Nancy Sinatra, Jon Spencer, Afrika Bambaataa and Claire Evans of YACHT in some poptastic, dusky italo-bass driven steamers. Recommended!
Maxi-Single released 21-04-2011 on Kompakt Digital
Heralding the arrival of GusGus's seventh studio album, 'Arabian Horse', the band's two masterminds Biggi Veira and President Bongo present two instrumental versions of their hypnotic glissando stomper 'Magnified Love' and the echoing dub house workout 'Within You Dubs'. Unmistakably GusGus!
Maxi-Single released 04-04-2011 on Running Back
Running Back showcases the housier side of Scandinavian disco hero Todd Terje with 'Ragysh', a long, sun-drenched piece of epic build-ups and progressive grooves. 'Bonysh' shines with more experimental and minimalistic percussions, while two versions of 'Snooze 4 Love' deliver cosmic melodies galore. Sweet.
Album released 01-04-2011 on Permanent Vacation
Vienna's Wolfram Eckert strides fully into the limelight with his self-titled debut album. Guests include Hercules & Love Affair, Sally Shapiro, Patrick Pulsinger, Holy Ghost! & Legowelt not to mention euro-dance legend Haddaway (yes, that one!). A heady elixir of pure unadulterated disco-pop genius!
Maxi-Single released 22-04-2011 on Internasjonal
Worst Friends follow up their recent outing on Future Classic with 'Billiards with a Midget', a wonderfully chilled-out disco song with a slow and dubby vibe. Internasjonal label head Prins Thomas supplies one of his fabled Diskomikses in a funky cosmic vein, and Dr. Dunks brings out the track's housier side. Excellent!
Maxi-Single released 11-04-2011 on Live at Robert Johnson
Two ultra-rare tracks from Ata's recent LARJ selection see a single release: Grauzone's 'Raum' strikes a similar chord as their 1981 mega-hit 'Eisbär', but it's of course much less played and Ata's edit ensures perfect club compatibility. Zwischenfall's 'Flucht' complements this with a great electro-disco gem. Ace!
Maxi-Single released 18-04-2011 on Cómeme
Cómeme visits Santiago de Chile with some of the label's artists remixing tracks from the Chilean pop underground. The result is a wonderfully eclectic fusion of jacking house beats, new wave disco synths, free-style techno grooves and diverse Latin influences across the EP's four tracks. Certain to turn heads!
EP released 16-04-2011 on The Leaf Label
Stockholm's Roll The Dice are the latest signing on Leaf, and their live EP debut serves as a clear indicator of the duo's influences: Two minimally pulsing bass arpeggios serve as the backbone for two long and slowly building krautrock jams that should intrigue all fans of Cluster and early Tangerine Dream.
Album released 11-04-2011 on m=minimal
Recorded in 1978 by Tangerine Dream's Peter Baumann, 'Ballet Statique' is yet another rediscovered masterpiece from Conrad Schnitzler's vast and adventurous body of work. Reissued by the highly collectible m=minimal label, this is pure reductionist synth goodness for fans of Oneohtrix Point Never and the like.
EP released 15-04-2011 on 030303 Records
If you don't love Tom Jenkinson's music you have no sense of humour. Yet 'The Unstoppable Phax Machine' might appeal to more serious-minded acid, electro, and neo-disco fans as well, being comparatively docile and DJ-friendly - until happy hardcore closing track 'Woof Acid' that is... Highly recommended.
EP released 12-04-2011 on mr.intl
Wolfram teams up with Microthol's Constantin Zeileissen for 'Recession Session' - basically an acid-tinged cover version of KLF's 'What Time Is Love?', which nicely fits the 1990s vibe of mr.intl, the new imprint of Hercules & Love Affair's Andy Butler. Backed by a slightly less ecstatic Jori Hulkkonen remix. Fun!
Compilation released 14-04-2011 on Voyeurhythm
London's Voyeurhythm crew drop another top-notch release, Benjamin Sun's 'Salty Tears', a blissed-out sultry groover with soulful paino and vocals teasing, while Monte Carlo Interchange's 'Speedway 75' tingles nonchalantly with naughty cosmic synths and tropical beats. Classy.
Maxi-Single released 15-04-2011 on Gomma Dance Tracks
The latest single off Munk's recent 'The Bird And The Beat' album, 'Rue de Rome', gets an exhaustive remix treatment with highlights coming from Ed Banger's Mickey Moonlight, who supplies a bleepy, jazzy electro-funk version, and Black Strobe with a gentle electro-disco remake. Great video as well.
Maxi-Single released 12-04-2011 on Codek Records
New York's In Flagranti give us an extra dose of their trademark garage-no-wave-electro-disco combo with the minimalistic, yet eerily seductive 'Worse for Wear'. On remix duties we have Punks Jump Up, who give the track a glossy nu-rave makeover, and Mixhell contributing a '90s EBM acid slammer.
EP released 11-04-2011 on Blackstrobe Records
Black Strobe's Arnaud Rebotini kicks off his new label with 'Personal Dictator', nicely contrasting harsh rave noises with a minimalistic new wave vibe and synthetic choirs. Less restrained remixes come from Mixhell, Motor and The Hacker, while bonus track 'Twilight Of Gods' offers mellower disco delights.
Maxi-Single released 04-04-2011 on International Feel
Long-standing UK DJ and producer Dan Keeling releases his first for International Feel, every bit as heavenly as the title 'The Goddess' suggests. Deep, glittering synths immerse in a sunny slo-mo disco euphoria whilst the experimental Quiet Village remix absorbs with a sweaty jungle feel. Brilliant release.
Compilation released 11-04-2011 on Live at Robert Johnson
Robert Johnson main man Ata compiles a volume for the LARJ series, and from the outset this was going to be something special. It's best described as '1983 seen from 2011' - 12 rare tracks from the era of new wave disco and early electro that still sound as futuristic today as they did 25 years ago. Killer!
Album released 28-03-2011 on These Days
After a single low-profile release last year, London-based June releases a highly anticipated debut album on Argy's These Days. An absolutely gorgeous timeless blend of italo, classic Chicago and kosmische with Terre Thaemlitz aka DJ Sprinkles on two epic remixes to boot. An incredible record!
Album released 09-03-2011 on RVNG Intl.
First released in 1980, a rare gem amongst synth fetishists, Harald Grosskopf's experimental synth album is given a much deserved re-release by New York's RVNG. Using the Minimoog at his disposal and his influences as a drummer in Ash Ra Tempel, the album excels in its wonderful utopic electronic vision.
Album released 25-03-2011 on MiG
The latest volume in MiG's monumental series of Klaus Schulze reissues, 'La Vie Electronique Vol. 9' once again compiles almost four hours of music from the German synth pioneer's vast body of work. Epic pieces, highly recommended.
