After low-slung hip-hop/dubstep crossover tunes on labels such as All City, London's Om Unit takes it the other way with the high-speed 'Transport', a furious EP matching Stingray's speed with Kuedo-style syncopated synth assaults. Remixes by Machinedrum and Ital Tek. Killer.

Young über-talent Darling Farah continues to define his style on his second EP. Title track 'Division' is a powerful, minimalistic dub-tech workout intended for the floor, while tracks like 'Foregin' and 'Model' add broken house and electronica tweaks to a highly coherent EP. Recommended.

DJ Mix by Dakar
For this week's podcast we're pleased to have a true veteran player show off his skills and eclectic music taste: Christian Kreuz a.k.a. Dakar. Originally hailing from Munich, Dakar has been a resident DJ in the city's legendary Ultraschall club for eight years and has recorded his music for labels such as Get Physical, Disko B, and most recently Gomma. Many will further know the charismatic neo-Berliner as part of Dakar & Grinser, the electro pop...

Second release on Civil Music by Darling Farah and this one's a bomb: 'Exxy' is a powerful, minimalist Detroit 'stepper that wouldn't feel out of place on Hotflush. 'Younger' and 'Show Me' surprise with more adventurous arrangements, and 'Crown' follows a moody(mannish) straight and housey path. Ace!

Parisian beat-smith Débruit lets another EP loose on London's Civil Music, this time strongly influenced by Turkish music and instruments, he fuses his synth-funk broken beat style brilliantly with these exotic flavours. Successfully oozing Eastern mystique with extremely danceable results.

The first of two EPs of the Starkbot's galactical bass project sees his synth melodies grandiously orchestrated to cinematic effect, a more atmospheric turn from his 'Ear Drums and Black Holes' album. Completed with a fine fleet of remixes including Egyptrixx, Rudi Zygaldo, +Verb and Ital Tek. Ace!

Crossing over wonky hip-hop, electro funk, grime and African rhythms, Parisian producer Débruit has delivered a real slammer with his 'Spatio Temporel EP', a great follow-up to last years 'Let's Post Funk' mini album. Hipsters take note, this man is about to blow up big time.

array of rhythms

I don’t know to call it bad or superb timing from Débruit and his label Civil Music. But while the whole world is living in winter wonderland, Débruit leads us on a diverse and engaging journey through an incredible array of rhythms and influences from the sunny global village. His new EP Spatio Temporel feels like a sweaty bus ride from the local fish market to a upper class mid-summer cocktail party.

Armed with his synths... more...
