The 12th edition of Berlin's unique and radically open-minded music and art festival, Club Transmediale, has been opened yesterday with a much anticipated concert of electronic music legend Morton Subotnik.
The 77-year-old composer took to the stage together with pianist SooJin Anjou and visual artist Lillevan at Berlin's HAU1, revisiting his pioneering pieces 'Silver Apples of the Moon' (1967) and 'The Wild Bull' (1968) in a mesmerizing performance. If you have missed this first highlight of CTM.11, we have included a small video below. Excerpt of Morton Subotnik's CTM.11 opening concert Tuesday, February 1The full CTM.11 programme will start tonight with events in all of the festival's Kreuzberg-based venues, such as West Germany, Paloma Bar, and Monarch. Next door Festsaal Kreuzberg will host the surely memorable 'Dual Duel', advertised as a 'performance/DJ-Battle' of 'Lippok vs. Nicolai', pitching brothers Ronald and Robert Lippok, best known as two thirds of To Rococo Rot, against the Nicolai brothers Olaf and Carsten (a.k.a. Alva Noto). The highly anticipated opening of Recombinant Media Lab's CineChamber will also take place tonight with the performance of 'Plaything', a piece designed, composed and mixed by late and great US-American composer Maryanne Amacher specifically for the CineChamber's surround system. Daily live concerts will further utilise the CineChamber's immersive 360° A/V environment, with artists like Raster-Noton supergroup Signal (Wed), Monolake (Thu), and Deadbeat (Fri). Wednesday, February 2Tomorrow, Wednesday, the .HBC venue will host the opening of the 'Palais Wittgenstein' series of chamber concerts. Svarte Greiner (Wed), Hauschka and Hildur Gudnadottir (Fri), as well as Greg Haines (Sat). Saturday, February 5Saturday will see concerts by Black Fog (a.k.a. The Field) and Zombie Zombie at Festsaal Kreuzberg, while Modeselektor and London's hipster label Night Slugs share the bill at Maria Club with a great bass-heavy line-up including Siriusmo, Cosmin TRG, Girl Unit, and Bok Bok.
