Düsseldorf-Detroit Expressway

With his new album, his first in six years, Yore Records founder Andy Vaz makes an impressive case for timeless house music. We caught up with the Düsseldorf-based producer right before he went straight vacationing.

Andy Vaz is a man attached to distant places. One is India, where part of his family is from and where Vaz travels once a year, the other is Detroit, his secret musical home. In the geographic middle between the two lies Düsseldorf, the West-German city known as the home of Kraftwerk and the focal point of Andy Vaz's musical endeavours. Since 1998 Andy Vaz has been busy running...

For this week's podcast we're pleased to have a true veteran player show off his skills and eclectic music taste: Christian Kreuz a.k.a. Dakar. Originally hailing from Munich, Dakar has been a resident DJ in the city's legendary Ultraschall club for eight years and has recorded his music for labels such as Get Physical, Disko B, and most recently Gomma. Many will further know the charismatic neo-Berliner as part of Dakar & Grinser, the electro pop...

The recent brilliant Minilogue EP gets a fine array of remixes, first up Dominik Eulberg giving the cloudy 'Drop the mask...' a tense tingling edge, Microtrauma doing a lush dubby melodic version of 'Let the life...' and efforts from Spada, Olaf Strut, Ümit Han and Rodskeez all going in splendid new directions.

Label based in New York City, 20 Releases now available
Based in Manhattan's East Village RVNG Intl. is a highly eclectic imprint releasing music from cosmic disco to indie pop and krautrocktronica. The genre-bending approach of fellow New Yorker Arthur Russell clearly serves as an inspiration for the label, as do Glasgow's like-minded kings of eclecticism Optimo.

Veteran German house music producer Marvin Dash debuts on the Workshop series, with the polished and sophisticated 'Untitled 1' giving way to low-slung, low-fi grooves on the flip - the grungy wild-pitch style of 'Untitled 2' being our favourite. Ace!

Artist based in Paris, 12 Releases now available
Growing up on the tranquil island of Reunion is unlikely to have prepared Alexis Benard a.k.a. Seuil for the busy Paris club life, yet he has established himself as one of the key players in the French capital's electronic music scene since his move there in 2000. Since 2006 he has released well over 20 EPs on prominent labels such as Moon Harbour and Circus Company, gradually evolving his sound away...
