![]() Founded in 2007, Berlin based label Vidab Records has caused quite a stir over the past year on the back of a string of unpretentious, high quality techno releases. Quickly advancing from insider's tip to established player in the field, Vidab is run by friends and partners Oliver Deutschmann and Stephan Hill, who record together as Gowentgone and host regular club nights at Berlin's Golden Gate club. Label owners Deutschmann and Hill, who have both been living in Berlin since the late 90s, met in 2005 and started to work on music together, and have since contributed tracks to labels such as Crosstown Rebels or Innervisions. With their own label Vidab they two have been grooming a roster of talented new artists: Koljah for example, who has previously recorded for Phil e and Sushitech, or newcomers like Wouldbenice (whose 'One Cell EP' can be highly recommended) and the label's latest signing, Robin Drimalski. Not only with its stark artwork - monochrome images of wind farms and rotors - does Vidab refer to classic techno traditions; the label's sound itself is a powerful statement in favour of the genre's traditional virtues. Reduced and understated, but never sacrificing its basic groove, Vidab's aesthetic combines the past with the present, resulting in ultimately timeless club music. |
