His atmospheric grooves have gotten the attention of Jus-Ed and Steve Bug, and with only a few releases to his name, young Muscovite Anton Zap is already being touted as one of house music's most promising new talents.

If the idea of Russian house music brings up thoughts of glitzy disco nights and sing-along chart-toppers, you couldn't be much further from the truth when it comes to Anton Zap. The 29-year old Moscow-born DJ and musician has recently been getting attention for his deep house style that manages to be as much melancholic and emotional as it is uplifting and danceable.

Soulful, raw and stomping, Zap's music builds upon the foundations of classic American house music rather than its current European counterpart, and it was the US-American influences in his tracks that have helped his music cross the distance to Bridgeport, Connecticut - home of house music DJ and producer Jus-Ed, who has recently signed Zap to his well-respected Underground Quality label.

"We are connected through myspace," explains Zap, who will be bringing Jus-Ed to Moscow in October for meeting - and DJing - in the physical world.

Zap held a seven year residency at Moscow's Propaganda club until 2007, during that time one of the city's hot spots. "Our music scene is still growing", says Zap, who now host monthly parties in the bar of fashion star-designer Denis Simachev, which frequently acts as a stage for artist like Quarion, Marflow and Todd Terje, as well as for long-standing members of the Moskow scene such as DJ Zorkin.

Anton Zap's latest outing is the first release on new label Quintessentials, called 'Pepper Exchange', a musical nod to the days of Strictly Rhythm and classic 90s house. All in all only three 12"s and a handful of compilation tracks have brought Zap's music to a knowledgeable few so far, but this is just about to change with the attention his music has been getting lately.

Enthusiasts for Zap's music can be found in the ranks of continental Europe big-shots like Sebo K and Poker Flat's Steve Bug. The latter has just chosen Zap's track 'Captain Storm' as an opening track for his 'Bugnology 3' mix album, which focuses on the deeper end of house and techno and which will be released on Poker Flat this Friday, September 26.
