One of our favourite producers at the moment, Manchester's xxxy, could hardly have chosen a more fitting title for his All City debut: 'Kerpow' is a prime-grade breakbeat slammer that alternates big pads, cowbells and squarewave bass stabs. It's backed by 'Down With U' which gives a Juke-style hook a Drexciyan spin. Outstanding single!

Two extraordinary tracks by current hotshot xxxy on Doc Daneeka's Ten Thousand Yen imprint: 'You Always Start It' and 'Ordinary Things' build on Joy Orbison's euphoric dubstep formula, with straightened beats, spluttering synths, and lush pads lending a unique and truly anthemic quality to them both. Recommended.

Hybrids dubtech/dubstep sounds from Manchester's Rupert Taylor a.k.a. XXXY on Bristol's Pollen imprint: 'Rain' is a deep and drifting Basic Channel style affair, with Tectonic artist Jack Sparrow putting an emphasis on dub elements and low-end bass in his fine remix. Strong single.
