The delightful funked-up synths, bass beams and lo-swung beats of California-based eLan have appeared prolifically this year on Modeselektor's Monkeytown Records. Now all on one release with a host of remixes including Byetone, Lazer Sword, Cosmin TRG, Anstam and Modeselektor themselves. Ideal.

California's eLan covers the more abstract, downbeat- and electronica-influenced side to the Monkeytown spectrum. His third EP for Modeselektor's label offers four original tracks, equally informed by wonky hip-hop, low-slung p-funk and Rephlex braindance. Remixes by Anstam and Modeselektor further fit the mood. In his second of a trilogy of releases for Monkeytown, San Diego-based eLan sets loose more gleeful synths and sweetly trippy beats in the brilliantly aptly titled 'Alligator Snaps'. His fuzzy basslines and bright bleeps are never over done and the Cosmin remix slyly transforms it into Berghain corker!
