Recording music under the name Venetian Snares since 1997, Winnpeg, Ontario born Aaron Funk has seen an impressive career since his first self-published cassette tape releases. His surprising popularity for an experimental electronic music artist can be attributed to his amazing productivity - his body of work encompassing more than two dozen albums alone - his signing to Mike Paradinas' influential Planet Mu label in 2001, and most importantly the innovative power and prowess of his music. While the Venetian Snare style can be roughly subsumed under the breakcore genre, it rarely uses 4/4 beat, but more exotic measures like 7/4 or 7/8 instead, further incorporating a huge amount of samples, ranging from classical music to Balkan folk, pop songs and even sounds recorded during sexual intercourse with his ex-girlfriend Hecate.
