Legendary second generation Detroit techno group Underground Resistance was initially founded by Mike '
Mad Mike' Banks and
Jeff Mills in late 1989, and shortly thereafter joined by
Robert Hood as a third member. UR's ground-breaking releases appeared largely on their own eponymous imprint, pioneering a harder and more politically charged variant of classic Detroit techno. After a few highly productive years Mills and Hood left the group in 1992 to pursue successful solo careers and Mike Banks continued UR by himself as a more open platform to promote artists such as
Gerald Mitchell and
Rolando.
