"Heimatmelodie" is a term normally used to describe German folk music - the kind of music which is normally listened to by people dressed in funny leather costumes drinking loads of beer and eating "Weißwurst" at Munich's "Oktoberfest". But what is techno if not another kind of German folk music?! That's what some friends thought four years ago, so they decided to give "Heimatmelodie" a new meaning, starting to promote underground parties in a small club in the city of Essen with djs like Clé, Highfish, Kiki or Daniel Bell. After some events the location got too small so Heimatmelodie relocated to Düsseldorf's Harpune club and then finally to its current home clubs, the hugely popular "Hotel Shanghai" and Dortmund's new "Versteck". The evolution of the club night and the people involved finally led to the decision to start the Heimatmelodie label. Just like the club night, it offers a platform for talented artists from the Ruhr Area as well as other national and international acts. It does not embrace one certain style as it is open for good music from house over minimal to techno. Andre Crom DJ, producer and resident of Heimatmelodie is head and A&R of the label. Tobias Kommescher, promoter of the Heimatmelodie club night, supports its promotion. And Kerstin "Kiki" Ernert takes care of the artwork, just like she does for every Heimatmelodie party flyer and poster since the first event.
