Canadian musician and sound artist Tim Hecker is one of the best known artists in experimental electronic music. Since 1996, he has produced a range of audio works for Kranky, Alien8, Mille Plateaux, and Room40. His early recordings appeared under the name Jetone, but he soon became known under his real name with albums such as 'Haunt Me' and 'Harmony In Ultraviolet'. His music focuses on exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody, fostering an approach to songcraft which is both physical and emotive.

'Dropped Pianos' is somewhat of a companion piece to Tim Hecker's masterful 'Ravedeath, 1972' from earlier this year - nine piano sketches recorded in the album's preparation. Exploring more sombre moods and transparent instrumentation, 'Dropped Pianos' is a fantastic work in its own right however. Highly recommended.
