With an Atari computer (a dinosaur by the standards of today's music making elite) and a fresh passion for the mesmerizing drum and percussion driven techno and acid house tracks he heard a DJ play in his home town of Bremen, Germany in 1987, Thomas Schumacher began collecting records and slowly assembling the small bedroom music studio from which his earliest productions came. In 1990 Thomas got his first break when he became resident DJ at Bremen's first techno club, Crash. He signed with Confused Recordings in 1995 with his 'Elektrochemie Project,' and the following year as a solo act with techno label Bush Records on which his international breakthrough 'When I Rock' was released in 1998. 'When I Rock' was a unique mix of techno and hip hop and Schumacher's fusing of the genres was all that much more special because it was still in its infancy and offered a glimpse of what was yet to come. At the end of 1998 Thomas released his first solo artist album 'Electric Ballroom' on Bush Records which was admired by fans and critics alike for it's forward thinking sound and was called 'Techno's funk packed answer to (Daft Punk's) Homework' by Mixmag. His second album, 'Electric Avenue,' came in 2000 which was released on his own label Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten, which he created in order to have more creative control over his musical projects. The album was a success, in particular his interpretation of Inner City's classic track 'Good Life,' which found its way into several DJ sets including that of the 'originator' himself Kevin Saunderson. After moving to Berlin in 2005, Thomas brought to fruition his third album, 'Home,' which highlighted his great understanding of the currents running through and beneath contemporary electronic music and de:Bug magazine called it a 'Bloody Masterpiece.' Soon after the release of 'Home' Thomas signed with Get Physical Music and has released several singles to date, the most recent being 'Slow,' which once again showcases his very strong ability for the synthesis of House with just the right touch of hip hop elements for making the sound pleasingly funkier.

Get Physical have Thomas Schuhmacher compile this year's birthday mix and compilation for the influential label. The single tracks feature plenty of exclusives and noteworthy collaborations, including a tongue-in-cheek team-up of M.A.N.D.Y. with Matthew Dear, and Elektrochemie recording with Tiger Stripes.
