When Viennese label Mainframe ceased operations in 1995, two giants-to-be rose from its ashes: Mego, which became one of the 90s most influential labels for experimental electronics, and Central, run by Martin 'Tin' Retschitzegger and Michael 'Duke' Peter - better known under a myriad of pseudonyms, such as Hi-Lo, Memory Foundation, Ratio or The Skinless Brothers. Backed by two prior releases on Robert Hood's freshly founded M-Plant label, Tin & Duke quickly established Central as one of Europe's main outlets for classsic Detroit-style sci-fi techno, producing all of the numerous releases on the label themselves. The label was moved to Berlin at the end of the 90s and since 2001 only a handful of releases have seen the light of day. What remains is a glorious back catalogue well worth digging (available for the first time on zero") and hopes for a return of this influential label.
