Originally part of electro-punk outfit Six Finger Satellite, who recorded five albums for Sub Pop between 1990 and 2001, John MacLean got to meet James Murphy, who worked as a sound engineer the band. When Six Finger Satellite disbanded and Murphy founded DFA, MacLean was one of the first to join the new label, recording his unique brand of energetic disco house together with vocalist and collaborator Nancy Whang.
