A pioneer of West Coast hip-hop, Greg Broussard a.k.a. The Egyptian Lover started out as a DJ in Los Angeles with Uncle Jamm's Army, alongside people like Ice-T and Chris 'The Glove' Taylor. His first single, '
Egypt, Egypt' became a hit 1984 and is still regarded as a classic recording of old-school electro, a sound The Egyptian Lover has stayed true to ever since. When his third album '
Back from the Tomb' was met with only moderate success in 1994, Broussard took a prolonged break from music, returning in 2006 with '
Platinum Pyramids', which presented an updated take on his trademark sound and rekindled interest in his productions. Broussard has since collaborated with next generation electro and techno artists like
Jamie Jones and
Luke Eargoggle (as
Egypt Ear Werk), and a new album, titled '1984', is announced for 2011.
