Originally formed by Ken Downie, Ed Handley, and Andy Turner, The Black Dog became one of the most influential UK techno acts of the 90s, spearheading the 'intelligent techno' movement of the time with their releases for Warp. Handley and Turner eventually left to pursue their Plaid project full time, and after a prolonged break Downie continued The Black Dog with Martin and Richard Dust from Dust Science Recordings. Since 2005, new recordings as well as classic re-releases have been appearing on Glasgow's Soma label, as well as on the groups newly founded Dust Science imprint.
