One of the few artists who successfully translated the aesthetics of EBM into the age of techno, Terence Fixmer jump-started his career with his releases for Gigolo Records at the turn of the millennium. He frequently collaborates with Nitzer Ebb vocalist Douglas McCarthy, while his solo productions, these days mostly appearing on Jochem Paap's Electric Deluxe label, have taken a turn towards more hypnotic and reduced techno.

Picked!
Terence Fixmer originally made a name for himself with his unique take on electronic body music for DJ Hell's International DJ Gigolo Records during the heyday of the neo-electro boom. The French techno veteran has since reinvented his sound and found a new musical home in Speedy J's increasingly prominent Electric Deluxe imprint.
Fixmer completes this transformation with his 'Comedy of Menace', an ten-track album of bare-bone techno tracks, reduced to their very essence of shuffling grooves, echoed bleeps and monochromatic chords.
The album links back to Fixmer's earlier work in the album's preference for cold, industrial moods, but now Fixmer has stripped his music of all pop music references and instead opened up cavernous sound spaces for the few remaining elements. The resulting pieces are minimalistic techno of a timeless quality, densely atmospheric despite their sparseness.
Not unrelated to the the work of Sleeparchive or Marcel Dettmann in its approach to arrangement and sound design, 'Comedy of Menace' is a mature album that stands out as a definite recommendation for fans of booming, minimalist techno.
